Summary: Changing the Retention period of the Raw SMF Data Rentation from 6 months to 60 Days
Justification: Reduces Mainframe Overhead Expenses
Benefits to Users: Reduced Mainframe Overhead Expenses
Details:
IBM System Management Facility (SMF) is a component of IBM's z/OS, providing a standardized method for writing out records of activity. SMF provides full logging of all activities running on that LPAR, including I/O, network activity, software usage, error conditions, processor utilization and many others.
Today we still keep 6 months of all the SMF data in an archive (repository) called the raw SMF data, that is billed to MVS Overhead. We want to reduce the rentation period of the raw SMF data to a 60 day period as the base (standard) offering
If an team needs SMF data retained longer that the 60 days, they can request and pay for an extract of the required SMF data retained as long as the team requires
