Scope: Tivoli Advanced Backup and Recovery (TAB&R) will replace DR Manager/SUNRISE
Effective Date: For each complex, a change record will be created in Service Center to support the change and to indicate the proposed implementation date for the install of Tivoli Advanced Backup and Recovery (TAB&R) , and the removal of DR Manager/Sunrise.
Group Name: National MVS Software Support Team

Summary: Tivoli Advanced Backup and Recovery (TAB&R) will replace DR Manager/SUNRISE prior to the z/OS 1.13 Refresh.
Justification: DR Manager is no longer supported by the vendor, and will not run under z/OS 1.13. It must be shut down prior to the z/OS 1.13 Refresh.
Benefits to Users: Tivoli Advanced Backup and Recovery software performs the same type of backup and recovery tracking as DR Manager, and is supported by the vendor.
Details: The DR Manage product, also known as Sunrise, is no longer supported by the vendor. The product will not work under z/OS 1.13, and will be replaced with Tivoli Advanced Backup and Recovery (TAB&R). The MVS Software Support team will install TAB&R on each complex listed in the Affected Locations section above. A conversion utility will be run to copy the definitions of applications and backup jobs from DR Manager to Sunrise. Note that the conversion utility will not copy information about past backup datasets, or user documentation. TAB&R will be installed approximately 4 weeks prior to the removal of DR Manager. The two products will run in parallel for that time so that users can become familiar with TAB&R, and update any definitions that were not copied forward by the conversion utility. During this time, both products will gather information about dataset backups so that TAB&R will have at least 4 weeks of history when DR Manager is shut down. Users must take the following actions: 1) If documentation is defined within DR Manager, users must manually copy the documentation to another location. The conversion utility will not copy User Documentation. 2) Users should delete any unnecessary applications, application jobs, application filters and registered backup jobs prior to the install date for TAB&R. 3) If multiple Cycle Start job names exist for an application in DR Manager, users should delete all but the one you want used after the conversion. 4) If more than 8 Cycle End Job names exist for an application in DR Manager, delete all but the 8 names you want used after the conversion. 5) After the TAB&R products are installed, users should verify that their applications and backup jobs are defined to TAB&R. If any definitions are missing, the user should add them. See the User’s Guide for directions. 6) If you defined any Cycle End Jobs in DR Manager, you must add a job or step to execute program BKMAPLEN. The PARM supplied to the BKMAPLEN step identifies the application cycle that has ended. This function is called Cycle Control, and is documented in the User’s Guide. The program will be available in the system LINKLIST beginning the date that TAB&R is installed on your system.
