Effective Date: 10/21/12
Group Name: National MVS Software Support Team
Affected Locations: SAIPC1A (SA19)
Summary: Started Tasks VACMONIT and WEBSRV will be shut down on SAIPC1A (SA19)
Justification: These started tasks are running to support the IBM Visualage COBOL environment for a client that no longer processes work on SAIPC1A (SA19).
Benefits to Users: These two tasks will no longer need to be monitored by the HP operations teams or supported by the HP MVS software teams.
Details: Started task VACMONIT is a job monitor server that runs to support communication between a workstation running IBM's VisualAge COBOL and the z/OS host. This task runs in conjunction with started task WEBSRV. WEBSRV is an IBM HTTP server running the foreign file system (FFS) server which allows users from a workstation access to datasets on a z/OS host by connecting the host as a network drive, in order to edit, compile and debug host applications from that workstation.
It is planned that these two tasks will not be started with the IPL on SA19. The HFS file, OMVS.VACOBOL.HFS, will also not be mounted at /usr/lpp/ffsserver. A week later, these datasets will be will be deleted:
