Scope: SAS for zOS software will be upgrade from version 9.1 to version 9.3 on HP mainframe systems supported by the National MVS Software Support Team. It builds on the direction of SAS 9.2 with improved capabilities to manage and process "Big Data," to derive deep insight even faster with SAS Analytics, and to help IT deliver to the business more effectively with better deployment, configuration and Administration of the SAS environment.
Effective Date: For each complex, a change record will be created in Service Center to support the change and to indicate the proposed implementation date for SAS version 9.3. The RFC will be scheduled for the MVS Maintenance Window IPLs
Group Name: National MVS Software Support Team
Affected Locations: CHIPC1D CSAAMVP GB1 PLIPCMZ PLIPCM1 PLIPCM2 PLIPC3H SAIPC1A
Summary: SAS for zOS software will be upgraded from version 9.1 to version 9.3 on HP mainframe systems supported by the National MVS Software Support Team.
Justification: The upgrade maintains a current level of software supported by the vendor.
Benefits to Users: Maintain software currency.
Details: SAS software will be upgraded from version 9.1 to version 9.3 on HP mainframe systems supported by the National MVS Software Support Team.
The following new datasets will be created: SYS2.SAS.CONFIG SYS2.SAS.DBRM.V8 SYS2.SAS.DBRM.V9V10 SYS2.SAS.LIBE SYS2.SAS.MAPSGFK SYS2.SAS.SASRXCFG
Impact to the Users:
1. To view all the enhancements and changes see the What's New document at http://support.sas.com/documentation/whatsnew/index.html
2. There is a new PDSE load library called SYS2.SAS.LIBE that contains modules that are required to be in a PDSE. This dataset must be concatenated to the SYS2.SAS.LIBRARY dataset in all places where SYS2.SAS.LIBRARY is used. The default PROC and REXX have the correct concatenation but users will need to update any of their own procs, jobs, clists, or rexx for the new SYS2.SAS.LIBE PDSE concatenation. 3. Options are now in SYS2.SAS.CONFIG. Previously they were in SYS2.SAS.CNTL. The default PROC and REXX have the correct Config dataset but users will need to update any of their own procs, jobs, clists, or rexx’s to reference SYS2.SAS.CONFIG instead of SYS2.SAS.CNTL. The options are now broken out into multiple members with a default concatenation of BATCH/TSO, COMMON, ENW0, and SITE. Configuration members are : BATCH Batch only parms TSO TSO only parms COMMON Common parms ENW0 Encoding parms SITE Site specific parms
NOTE : The SAS Proc has been changed. If SAS Proc is invoked by any other product, give a look the JCL and change it accordingly.
4. SASHELP and MAPS datasets are now dynamically allocated based on options. Jobs that have DD statements for these datasets can now remove them but it will not cause an issue if they remain. 5. There is a new REXX for invoking SAS. The old CLIST will be phased out with SAS 9.4. It is strongly suggested that the REXX be used. Users that have a customized SAS clist should convert to using a REXX version.
6. In all operating environments except Windows 32-bit environments, the SAS Remote Browser replaces the SAS Help Browser. You now view ODS HTML, PDF, and RTF utput, SAS documentation, and other Web pages that are specified by the WBROWSE command by using the Web browser on your computer.
7. In the FREQ procedure, frequency plots and cumulative frequency plots are no longer produced by default when ODS Graphics is enabled. You can request these plots with the PLOTS=FREQPLOT and PLOTS=CUMFREQPLOT options in the TABLES statement.
8. Defaults for output in the SAS windowing environment for Microsoft Windows and UNIX have changed.
9. HTML is the default ODS destination.
10. ODS template changed slightly, so if you were using ODS to create report output, you may find that it looks a little different.
11. VARLENCHK is a new parm that controls the Variable Length Ck error msg. It can be set to NOWARN in order to mimic how 9.1.3 functions. See http://support.sas.com/kb/31/850.html for more information.
12. In 9.1.3, the fonts were in traditional data sets, in 9.3, they are in a Unix file system reflected in the FONTSLOC value.
13. The SAS/C Transient library has been discontinued by the vendor. The production dataset SYS2.SAS.SASC.TRANSLIB is being dropped. Users need to check and updates their jobs or clists to remove the SYS2.SAS.SASC.TRANSLIB library. The CTRANSLOC option has been dropped from the options files. Any jobs or clists that use it in their local options needs to remove it.
14. In SAS 9.3, each user needs an OMVS segment, either specifically defined or as a default for all user IDs, so that the user can be 'dubbed' in UNIX terms. End users do not require their own UNIX file system directory.
15. The following datasets are no longer in use and will be deleted once the upgrade is complete. Any references to any of these datasets should be deleted.
